norika 紀香

A Spin-off of The Lost Gaze (see in theatre section)

This short film, Norika, records the phone call from Norika in the time of her being kidnapped by the Unit 731. Locked in a bizarre room, she has been told to call the front desk three times a day to ask for food or clothing to be sent to her. She has nobody to talk to even during those scheduled phone calls. Her melancholy has been pushed to limit on this very day: a shy, reserved young female as she has been cultivated to be, she starts talking to the telephone as if the other end is her brother Akira. She describes her imprisoned life, where numerous traces of suspicious secrets can be heard or felt even by a blind person. She expresses her wish for her brother to come and help her, maybe she somehow senses that her brother will be hearing her voice. Though her phone call, under surveillance and being played for her brother, becomes the last straw that pushes her brother to give in to the Unit. Without even knowing this, the call gets hung up, and Norika is again thrown back to her bizarre norms in this unknown space.
